Archaeological sites

In Cancun there are two magic archaeological sites, one in Hotel zone, in front of most emblematic beach of Cancun: playa Delfines,  named "El Rey", is a site you can not lose, any taxi will take you there, but you have to ask because is not very popular but is very special. The other one is "El Meco" a very small site in Punta Sam northern Cancún  town, you can visit it if you go to Isla Mujeres, is on the way.

Beaches and Aquatic Activities

Cancun beaches are of two types, the largest and most famous where are the most hotels, in front of Caribbean Sea, with turquoise blue water and regular swell, ideal to enjoy from your hotel, spend a day to relax there. The other beach is north of the hotel zone, opposite Isla Mujeres, it is a beach practically without waves ideal for children and people who like calm waters.

The Cancun Hotel zone is located between Caribbean Sea and Nichupte Lagoon, so it is a paradise for aquatic activities. There are many nautical and dive shops offering deep sea fishing trips, scuba lessons, and tours where you can explore whale shark, Sailfish and Mantas habitats. You can snorkeling in coral reefs or just practice sailing or windsurfing. Most hotels have rental shops where you can find everything needed to enjoy snorkeling, wave runners, sailboats or kayaks. Many also offer parasailing for the ultimate beachside adventure.

Jungle tours are extremely popular too. These cool excursions take you on a wave runner or private boat through the lagoon’s mangrove canals as you seek out the area’s most mysterious and beautiful caverns and pools.

If you’re mostly interested in fishing, there are boats to rent and offer professional fishing tours hosted by experts. The best fishing season is between April and September. In the Mexican Caribbean you can fish for marlin, swordfish, barracuda, gilthead fish and many more. A lot of guides will happily prepare "ceviche" with the fish you catch. (Ceviche is a traditional mexican dish based on fresh fish, lemon, spices, olive oil and cooking herbs.) Sport fishing tours typically last between four and eight hours, and they cast off early, a little bit after dawn.

If you prefer a more relaxed boat tour, there are rides in submarine-like boats  Imagine being submerged under the crystal clear water watching schools of shiny fish swim by without be wet.

From Cancun you can go to a lot of places at Riviera Maya that where you can scuba dive or snorkel. These spots are less frequented by tourists and feature some marvelous underground rivers and special cenotes. Cozumel is also a beloved destination for reef snorkeling and scuba diving, and it’s easy to get to from Cancun and the RIviera Maya.

For dolphin fans, the Mexican Caribbean hosts some of the world’s best dolphinariums where you can closely interact with these smart, funny creatures. You’ll find dolphin adventures in Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Puerto Aventuras, Xcaret, and Xel-Há in the Riviera Maya. Some tours stop at the dolphinariums and include an option to swim with dolphins, so be sure to check out all your options.

Downtown Cancun

Outside of the Hotel Zone, Cancun has a cool downtown area that has delighted tourists for years. The main street is Ave. Tulum and it winds through downtown from north to south, connecting Puerto Juarez and Punta Sam (where the ferry to Isla Mujeres is taken) with the International Airport, the Riviera Maya and areas farther south. 

Cancún town has other important avenues like Yaxchilán, Uxmal, Náder and part of Cobá Ave. Here’s where you can find additional hotels, bars, stores, banks, money exchanges, travel agencies, car rental agencies, a variety of restaurants, shopping malls, parks and assorted tourist services.

Market 28 is located in Cancun town as well, and it is a thriving traditional Mexican market. Here you will find all types of items, including handmade crafts, food stalls and restaurants crowded with locals. Near the downtown bullfighting arena, there are many bars where residents gather to share a beer, tequila or cocktails served with a delicious botana (snack) while they chat, play cards or dominos, and listen to live Mexican music.


Canun is one of the most cities in Mexico with a wide options for dinner, from economic restaurants until gourmet options and really specialized with excellent service. You can choose between  grill, italian, japanese, seafood, thai, hindu, european and american y of course mexican food,  in your hotel or in malls like Plaza Kukulcan, Plaza la Isla and Plaza Puerto Cancun. Please  go out for dinner at least two nights.

To go Shopping

Cancun’s Hotel Zone has five big shopping malls. All of them have fast food restaurants as well as exclusive international and Mexican restaurants. You will also find familiar brand name stores featuring imported clothing, fashionable accessories and souvenirs.

Plaza Caracol is a roofed mall with gift stores, handicrafts, clothing and jewelry located in the heart of the Hotel Zone, constantly under reconstruction.

Plaza Flamingo is a roofed mall too located at the side of the lagoon with handicrafts stores, silver jewelry shops, and beach clothing boutiques with famous American restaurants.

Plaza Forum is a shopping mall that is semi roofed with a few floors featuring beach clothing boutiques, gift stores and popular restaurants and it is the heart of nightlife .

Plaza La Isla is one of the biggest malls in Cancun. It is totally open and filled with a lot of gift shops, brand name stores, popular jewelers, restaurants, a cinema and a fun dolphin aquarium.

Plaza Kukulcán is a big roofed mall with all kind of stores including a very exclusive selection of European boutiques featuring Louis Vuitton, Ermenegildo Zegna, Dior, Pineda Covalin, and many more. High-end jewelry stores and special perfume shops can also be found at Plaza Kukulcán.

In downtown Cancun, there are also a few shopping malls , Plaza las Américas and Plaza Malecón with varied shops, restaurants and cinemas or Plaza Puerto Cancun a new nice mall with exclusive shops and gourmet restaurants.


From Cancún You have access to all Riviera Maya tours that can be reserved by internet, (look for the seafest agencies like Cancun Adventure) or directly in your hotel,  akk to your concierge or at the hospitality deck where the safest agencies are represented.

There are several cains of tours, big tematic parks with extreme adventures, natural and cultural activities, small parks with "cenotes" and extreme jungle activities, little zoos and rescued animals farms, tours to watch birds or dive and snorkel in the sea, cenotes and inlets.

Almost you can salling at sunset in Nichupte lagoon or Bahía de Mujeres with excellent lobster dinner, wine, dance, pirate performance and a lot of fun.

From Cancun you can take a tour to Chichen Itza, Uxmal and Ruta Puc, in Yucatan state or Tulum and Coba archaeological sites at Riviera Maya.

Even there are nightlife tours to the principal discos and bars located al the hearth of hotel zone around Plaza Forum.
