Holbox Island is located 3 hours distance from Cancun, in the north-east of the Yucatán Peninsula, in the state of Quintana Roo, México and is part of an ecological reserve - the fauna and flora protection area "Yum Balam."

To the east lies Cabo Catoche, separated from the island by the beautiful Laguna Yalahau. On the 35 km long and 2- 4 km wide island there is only one village. The islanders depend for their living on fishing, and are a very cheerful, hospitable and warm hearted people.
